Happy Friday TES TIGERS! This week has been a very exciting whirlwind as we began seeing all of our awesome speech kiddos for therapy sessions. While we miss seeing each and every one of you in person, we are happy to finally get back to work via Zoom.
As we are sure you guys have learned, scheduling all of the Zooms/community building sessions has been quite a challenge. We are very appreciative of the flexibility you have allowed us when it comes to selecting days/times. That being said, we have had several of you not be able to attend our scheduled therapy times. We understand that things come up, and technology is frequently glitchy and unreliable. If you are unable to meet at your scheduled time, PLEASE reach out to us and let us know. Each therapist (Miss Lauren and Miss Paige) currently works with 50+ students, many different teachers and interventionists, and varying grade levels. Knowing when we will be available for required meetings and other students is very important. We appreciate your understanding with this matter.
While overall this week has been great with seeing all of our friends in speech, we have learned a few things. As mentioned before, scheduling is quite a challenge. That being said, we are learning that grouping students in twos is the best way for therapy. In the virtual mode of school, our kids are losing valuable time socializing with peers. We think that allowing them to work with us and each other at the same time is a great thing, and we have started shifting students and combining them into small groups to facilitate such things. You most likely have been told this by your therapist either during a session or on Remind, and if not be on the lookout for such communication.
In some exciting news, Miss Paige is happy to share that she is currently supervising a graduate student who is finishing up her Masters' degree to become an SLP. Her name is Miss Rachel, and some of you have been fortunate enough to meet her during your sessions. She will be observing Miss Paige throughout the semester, and joining in Zoom therapy sessions to observe and help with treatment. Miss Rachel was an elementary teacher who decided to return to school to become an SLP, so she has tons of experience with kiddos and working within the school system.
In closing, we have attached some documents that may be helpful when it comes to teletherapy preparations and expectations. These were created by other SLPs who have been using the teletherapy platform for a while -think before it was "hip!" Please view these documents that discuss how to get your child ready for speech, as well as how we expect them to participate during sessions. **UPDATE: These documents do not seem to be visible if you are on a cell phone or tablet. You will need to use a computer to view them. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you to the parent who brought this to my attention!
We miss seeing you all in person SO MUCH, but we are feeling optimistic about the 2020-2021 school year. Please let us know if you have any questions/concerns. Have a great long Labor Day weekend!!!
