We are officially on Thanksgiving Break!! I hope each one of you has a wonderful, safe, and relaxing holiday. We look forward to diving headfirst into all of the winter and Christmas activities when we get back. Here's a look at some of the gobbling we did this week!
Happy November Tiger family! It's hard to believe that all of our exciting Halloween activities are over and we are just weeks away from Thanksgiving. We had such a blast celebrating with our kids and doing all of the fun and spooky activities.
As the 2nd semester kicks into high gear, we would like to thank all of the parents and teachers who have worked with us to make all of our ARC meetings successful. It has been a difficult task to schedule and have meetings with everything going on. We appreciate all of the flexibility and support we have been given.
Over the next few weeks, we will continue working on our speech sound production/articulation skills as well as our expressive and receptive language skills with various activities. Next week we will be focusing on Veteran's day, followed by multiple turkey and thanksgiving crafts and activities. This time of the year is so exciting due to the fun things we get to do in our therapy sessions!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding speech language therapy please utilize the contact portion of the blog to reach out to your child's SLP. We look forward to all of the exciting activities and events this semester will bring!
Happy Friday Tigers! It's hard to believe we are one month into the 2021-2022 school year. It has been chaotic to say the least with all of the different COVID/quarantine measures, but it is so great to have all of our kiddos back in the building learning and working in a safe environment.
As of right now, we are unaware of any upcoming changes concerning the mode of instruction. If this changes we will be the first to let you know and to begin modifying the current speech schedule. I know that during ARC meetings several parents have expressed concerns regarding instruction changing to the NTI format, but until we are told otherwise it is not something we are planning on doing.
Miss Lauren will be leaving us here at TES and becoming the full-time SLP at the recently opened Spencer County Early Learning Center. We will miss her very much, but know she will continue being an excellent SLP to all of the young Spencer County students! Along with Miss Lauren's transition, we will have a new SLP working with our Kindergarten and 1st Graders at TES. We are currently interviewing candidates but do not have a the position filled. As soon as we hire a new SLP we will be in contact if your child switches from Miss Lauren/Miss Paige to them.
Over the past few weeks we have worked on a variety of things in our speech therapy sessions including "About Me" speech worksheets where we discussed our speech goals and current grade level, Chipper Chat sound and articulation game, and September 11th/Patriot Day comprehension packets and good citizen worksheets. I am very excited about the the upcoming month because we will be doing many fall activities -including some spooky and fun Halloween things!
If you are not on my Remind app, please reach out and we can fix that. Also, if your child has an ARC meeting we will be conducting the majority of them via phone/Zoom to eliminate extra people in the building during this time. If you need to be in-person please let me know. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions/concerns you may have. I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend last week and that you enjoy this beautiful weather we are having right now!
Hello TIGERS!! It's hard to believe that in just 2 days school will be back in full swing. While we will miss our beautiful summer days, we are so excited to have all of our kiddos back and ready to work hard on their speech and language goals. We (Miss Lauren & Miss Paige) were fortunate enough to see a lot of you guy at open house last week; it made our day to see your smiling faces!
As we get back into school, please be aware of the Remind app and the messages that we occasionally send out. Currently Miss Lauren will be seeing all of the preschoolers at the new Early Learning Academy, as well as Kindergarten. Miss Paige will be seeing 1st-5th graders here at TES. Please feel free to contact either of us with any questions/concerns you may have.
We have all learned to expected unexpected over the past 1.5 years. That being said, as of now we do not have mandated masking in our schools or the social distancing requirement as precautionary measures for COVID-19. If this changes we will address those new concerns and any scheduling changes that may accompany it. From April 2020-May 2021 we were able to utilize the Zoom platform to provide speech-language therapy services via Teletherapy to children when they were unable to physically be at school. Moving forward this will be the option that we will fall back on should remote learning be necessary (fingers crossed it will not be!)
In closing, we are so excited to have everyone back in building, and to begin our 2021-2022 school year here at TES!!
-Miss Lauren & Miss Paige
Hello Tigers -it's been a while!! These past few weeks have been super crazy. We have been back to 5 days a week with all students for almost 2 months now! While we are so happy to see all of our kiddos daily, we have not had a lot of free time to update the blog.
That being said, we have seen tremendous growth and excitement in speech-language therapy this last quarter of school. So many kiddos are working hard on meeting their fluency, articulation, and/or speech sound goals!
We have 8 days of school left until summer break and so many fun things to do until then. Awards day, field day, and numerous other exciting activities will be occurring. You will be receiving the last progress report of the year next week; if you have any questions/concerns/comments please feel free to e-mail your child's SLP.
At the end of this week or at the beginning of next we will be sending home with students or posting on this site some resources that you can use at home to work on specific goals over summer break. It is important to continue working on your child's speech/language goals to ensure their success!
Have a great week Tigers -only 8 more days!!
-Miss Lauren & Miss Paige
Good evening Tiger family! I hope that you all are staying safe and warm during the recent winter weather. I know that the snow and ice can be dangerous and frustrating, but it sure is beautiful!
SPCS has decided to implement distance learning/NTI days in lieu of traditional snow days for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. The SLPs have created a helpful Speech/Language NTI plan for you to use when we are not in school to have therapy sessions. This plan includes the recommended time to be spent working on these skills per day and the specific skills to practice over the upcoming NTI days.
We will be available by email, phone, and text between the hours of 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM during the NTI days to answer any questions you may have including your child’s specific goal(s). You may reach us via email at email@example.com or
firstname.lastname@example.org OR on the Remind App.
It is recommended that you spend a minimum of 5 minutes per day working with your child on his/her speech and/or language skills. You may choose to practice one or all skills per day. Materials specific to your child’s goals have been provided electronically on the marked tabs on the home page for your use during NTI days. Please feel free to print these materials and use them. Here are some suggestions:
-Do a scavenger hunt around the house for things that include your child’s target speech sounds. Practice saying the word 5 times or just practice the speech sound 5 times by itself.
-Use old magazines to make a collage of pictures that start/end with your child’s speech sound or find pictures of the letter that makes their target sound.
-READ, READ, READ! Look for pictures and/or words that have your child’s target speech sounds in them. Practice saying each word 5 times.
-Make your own picture cards! Come up with words that begin or end with your child’s speech sound and have them child draw their own picture to help them practice.
-Get creative! Use materials around the house to practice. Put dish soap or a gel shampoo in a plastic bag or use salt, sugar, rice, shaving cream, etc. to have your child make the letter of their speech sound.
-READ, READ, READ!! Look for ways to target your child’s language skills while reading. Talk about the illustrations in the book and the things that you see in them. You can work on the following skills:
I know that not being in school is less than ideal, but I hope that you are able to work with your child on using their speech/language skills in a functional way while at home. Whenever we are back to physically being in school, therapy sessions will resume following the schedule set up at the beginning of the quarter.
Last but not least, if your child is due for an ARC meeting and we are not in school the meeting will continue to happen via the Zoom platform. Paperwork will be sent home when we are able to be back in the building and will either be mailed or sent home with students depending on how your child is enrolled (virtual v. hybrid) this year.
I hope this clears up some questions you may have, and gives you an idea of how to help your child outside of school and therapy hours. Have a great week and weekend!!

TGIF! Happy Friday Tigers -we're so glad to be back in person going on 3 weeks and that we are able to see your smiling faces everyday whether in person or on Zoom! The past few weeks have worked very hard on our speech and language skills, and had some fun along the way.
Some of the activities we've done included drawing and writing about winter break, completing a Martin Luther King Jr. worksheet (focusing on following multi-step directions), and painting Valentine's day speech words while we focused on our speech sounds and articulation as well as sentence formulation. We have had a great time working together and learning about different things, each other, and how to improve our communication skills.
As we move into the end of January -early February, we will begin to work on even more Valentine's Day activities (yay!!) We are so excited to talk about how much we love speech and each other and really focus on the positives during this crazy school year. We may be halfway through the year and fast approaching that 100-day mark, but we are nowhere close to being done with all of our fun speech activities!
We hope that you guys have all had a great January, and are ready to continue our work together. We am full of optimism and hope every time we have a speech therapy session. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns, and if you have not already please join the Remind app platform for fast alerts and easy communication.
Have a great day!!
-Miss Lauren & Miss Paige
Welcome back TES Tigers! It's crazy to think the 2020-2021 school is nearly half-way over but here we are. We hope everyone had a safe and wonderful holiday break. We enjoyed seeing everyone's smiling faces on Zoom the last couple of weeks of December and we're looking forward to being reunited!
As you know by now, the Spencer County Board of Education has selected the hybrid model we utilized earlier in the year to be the mode of instruction for the time being. We will be using a slightly modified version of the same schedule we had from September-November of this school year.
If your child did not have their annual ARC meeting in August, September, October, November, or December, they will be having one sometime from now-May. These speech only meetings will be conducted via Zoom to reduce the number of people in the building and abide by CDC guidelines. January is a fresh start and I know we are both looking forward to the 2021 calendar year and working hard in speech therapy even more!!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please contact Miss Lauren or Miss Paige using the tab on the webpage menu -"SLP BIOS AND CONTACT INFO." You can also use the Remind app if that is something that you are familiar/comfortable with.
Here's to a great semester!!
-Miss Lauren & Miss Paige
Good morning TES Tigers! As I'm sure you've heard by now, beginning Monday November 23rd we will return to full virtual/NTI instruction for all students in the district. If Spencer County is able to get out of the "Red Zone" for COVID 19, there is the possibility of return to school for our elementary/preschool kids on December 7th. Until then, students will continue school and therapy sessions virtually.
That being said, those who have existing virtual therapy sessions will continue to have those sessions at their normally scheduled time and day. Those who have been in person will be moving back into a 30 minute weekly block where they will attend therapy via Zoom. I realize this is not ideal, but we are doing what we can to make sure students miss out on as little as possible during this crazy year.
I will be contacting you with updates to your child's schedule if they have been attending school in-person for the last couple of months. Please let me know if there are any times that they will be in another Zoom for community building or interventions. Additionally, services will be from 8:30-3:30, or during school hours. If your child is unable to attend due to lack of internet service, we can provide in person services. These services are only for students who are UNABLE to participate virtually.
Again, we appreciate your flexibility and support during this school year. While things are not ideal, we believe that it is a time to work together and overcome adversity.
-Miss Lauren & Miss Paige
Happy Monday TES Tigers! We are excited to be heading into the season of thanks surrounded by our kiddos. We know there is quite a bit of concern regarding possible changes to our school format. Currently we have been told that nothing will change, however I think it's fair to say that things could change at the drop of a dime.
We currently only have 6 school days left until the Thanksgiving holiday, and 21 school days left until Christmas!! It's very hard to believe that we are nearly halfway though the year, but sure enough it seems to be the case! There are so many fun activities we will be doing with our speech kiddos these next several week. I hope they are all as excited as we are!
A couple of housekeeping items: please return any marked forms to SLP via envelope. This may include meeting notices, Medicaid forms, or conference summary signature pages. If your child is sick, please keep them home; if they are quarantined please reach out to us via phone, email, or Remind to make alternate plans for therapy sessions.
Below are some pictures from some activities we've done over the past few weeks. Please check them out! (Also if you're viewing this on a mobile device, there may be some trouble loading items.
Thank you and have a great week!!
